OK.. so... it has been a wicked long time since I posted. Sorry for any of you regular readers (are there any??) and browsers. I have been busy and haven't had much for internet access. But.. it looks as though the internet is working again at home so I hope to post a bit more. And I am working on getting a new camera. That should help with the presentation as well. So.. Here's to blogging again..

Sorry it has been so long inbetween posts! It has been a crazy month. I think this next month leading up to Christmas is actually going to be less crazy. I am settling into my new job.. That is the biggest news.. I am a regular 40 hour a weeker now. I haven't quite adjusted to the full week of work yet but I am getting there. My official title is Executive Assistant to Compliance. A mouth full.. Meaning I really have no specific job. My office also shares the fax and printer and my computer screen is wicked green but all and all its making more sense. I will hopefully get to do some traveling and I really do enjoy everyone here at the office. I should bring my camera in and get some desk shots.

Not much for craftiness that I can share without ruining surprises.. But I am working on a few projects and refining others.. As usual. As for photos.. Hopefully a new camera will be in the works before too long!

I had a great Thanksgiving. Went to Boston and was treated to a fabulous night on the town followed by a tremendous pie eating experience on the Cape.

This weekend was a 30th birthday party that will go down in the record books in terms of party greatness. There was salsa dancing upstairs and live music downstairs along with lots of laughing and merriment.

Now, of course, I am paying for all of this fun with a nasty cold. So.. I am sipping hot tea wrapped in layers and layers while editing pictures. I really need to start working hard on my website.

Chocolate Fountain

I have still been busy working on editing the belly dancing pictures. Kevin and I went to another event called Velvet to benefit the Ripple Effect and documented the dancers. The light was so much better than at the Hafli! I won't have to do very much editing at all. One of the highlights of the evening was the chocolate fountain.. yummm!

Today I was working on an embroidery project. I was trying to take on of Kevin's water color paintings and turn it into a fabric piece. Didn't work at all. Although now I have a more reasonable idea cooking up in my head. I also have been asked several times over the weekend about the Pin up girl throw I had been working on way back. I think its time to dig that project out again and start working on it!

It has been quite a complicated day today. To ease the tension I have been working on the compulsive activity of editing images in photoshop and scanning for my hopefully soon in coming website. Dexter bunny has been sitting under my chair most of the day helping me concentrate. I am working on images from the belly dancing party yesterday called the Hafli. It was nice to use a pro digital camera... oh... so nice... I am trying not to fall in love with it because it is my roommates. If anything it has encouraged me to get one of my own. As soon as I can afford 1,2000 big ones. I will be posting some images of the Hafli soon.. and I am sure some of the pictures from my busy scanning adventures.. lets see what I can upload for today...

Well it looks as though No on 1 has won! Yay! For those of you not in Maine it was a question all about equal rights. It was a rockin victory party at the Holiday Inn. This is my favorite picture from the night. My roommate Brian dancing and laughing. The girl in the pink hair reminded me of myself about 6 years ago. Lots of dancing and boozing .. the best political thing I have ever been to! I am glad to have this behind us.

Busy Bunny

This is a picture of a crazy scarf I am working on. It is way too wide and really fuzzy but fun none the less.

I am a busy bunny this week. I have a job interview tomorrow (yay!). As much as I do not enjoy the interview process I am happy to have the opportunity to have a job again. In other news:

I am selling a couple of stuffed animals on Etsy. Check out my Shop and enjoy. I figure I will start with 3 and see how it goes.

I am showing art/fabric work at 2 different locations in Portland. I am selling bags and scarves at Breaking New Grounds coffee shop on Exchange Street and Photos and bags down at Youngo's coffee shop on Congress Street. These shows are both thanks to the new Pine Street Studio's collective that I am a part of. I will give a better description in a later post.

Party

Here is my Halloween costume. I am a flower and Kevin is a bee...if you can't tell heehee. The party went very well. I think we had about 50 people through the door and a solid 30 at all times. No spills, no misshaps.. the only costume failure I had was my fake eyelashes kept wanting to come off. Not bad for a party that went from 8pm to 3am! 7 hours of party. Kevin did some really fantastic face painting on me. This will definately have to be done again in some way. Lots of good music was played, including a saw and the ever popular euphonium. I wish Halloween came more often.

Pre Party Silliness

In preparation for the Halloween party this Friday evening we had a mask making party last Wednesday. There was lots of silliness including the Euphonium being played. A Euphonium is very similar to a Tuba but smaller and just as goofy sounding. It was a fabulous addition to It's Not Easy Being Green especially. Playing, but not in the picture, is a drum set, a bass guitar, a cello, a harmonica and vocals from anyone so inclined.

This was my favorite mask.. The most morbid but the most creative without a doubt. I think he is going to be PBR man or something like that heehee...
This is most of the people who were there.. I have a feeling the actual party is going to be quite a big one. Off to work on my mask!

Belly Dancing Against Discrimination

Belly Dancing against discrimination. This was an event I photographed the other night to raise awareness and fund raise for the No on 1 campaign going on here in Portland, Maine. This came from the crappy digital camera but Kevin did a good job with it. I can't wait until my actual film comes back. It was a fabulous night of booty shaking and bell jingling.

On a different note Dexter decided to mangle my computer cables. I keep a barrier around my computer at all times but the little brat jumped over it and had a blast. I am just glad he didn't electrocute himself but he did lead to me purchasing a new keyboard, mouse and speakers. I am hoping that I won't need to replace the printer cable...I need to learn how to reattach wires. Needless to say I wasn't too pleased.

Rainy

It has been a rainy week so far but a good start to the week including my Dad coming for a visit and my best friend being in town too! I have been crafting a lot including lots of tubular shaped stuffed dolls. I keep thinking they look like various creatures but really the all look like rabbits. I am waiting for a nice day to take a group shot. Hopefully by the next time it is sunny I will have 5 done.

The eggplant picture I took at my mothers house of the last harvest from her garden. These were subsequently baked and turned into eggplant Parmesan mmm. The tree is from the woods behind her house. Great place for wandering and picture taking. So many weird mushrooms out right now I love it.

A weekend of apple picking. It was gorgeous. Such a great time of year.

My craftiness is now revolving around my Halloween costume. I have decided to be a flower and my boyfriend is going to be a bee. Quite entertaining : ) so far his costume is coming out way better than mine but I think I will be an even match once I get my gluegun heated up again. We are having a mask making party for the masquerade party we are having right before Halloween. I can't wait to start playing with Modpodge and plaster!

Over the Rainbow

A beautiful rainbow was out yesterday after a crazy windy day. It was much needed I think. It was fun to watch everyone rush down toward the water to take pictures.

I wonder if this will be the last rainbows of the season. I especially like the image with the rainbow over the playground. The light was so georgous. I wish I had my regular camera on me rather than the unpredictable digi. I am lucky I live here.

Good news and Bad news

First.. The good news.. I am now selling some of my scarves at Ferdinand
in Portland. Very exciting and motivating. I am working through my list of other ideas so see if they will sell there too. The lady on the left will be my next wood cut once I make a little more headway on my 'master list' of projects. I did buy a large dry erase board last night to try and keep track of everything. Heres Hoping it works!

Now.. the bad news.. My apartment got broken into last night while my roomate and I were home. Very scarry but we are ok and nothing was taken. He was a pretty poor excuse for a burgaler if you ask me but scarry none the less. I would like to think I don't have to lock my doors ( a la Micheal Moore) but when something like this happens it puts the fear back in me a bit. We had a police dog in the back yard for a while which was pretty cool although I was a little afraid for Dexter.

Stop Time

A while back I started working on a project where I took old family snap shots and scanned out people in the background. I became totally fascinated by the people you don't really mean to get in your pictures. This went on for a while but I have let most of them go except for this one and a few others. I love these two. This wasn't taken more than 15 years ago! I don't really mind when the old folks don't change their style.

So.. I did finish up some projects today. Finished another softie out of wool felt that I have yet to take pictures of. I also made tags for my scarves to hopefully get into a shop tomorrow.. cross fingers for me.. and made a huge list of future projects to try and put it all in perspective. I also took the public bus for the first time here in Portland. Not too bad... now if I can only figure out the stops and lines I will be all set!

Drama

Oh the drama.. Firstly the above picture is a vase. This is from the 'Riverbend Series' I did a few years ago. I am going to try and get them up in a coffee shop or something soon.. I need to sell them for purging and monetary purposes : )

I haven't posted for various reasons over the past weeks. As stated earlier my car is dead. AAA f-ed it up and won't pay for the damages unless I actually fix it. Wrong in my opinion. Very unfortunate because it has facilitated the loss of my job. I can't work anywhere outside of biking and walking distance. I will still be doing work for the farm on a more digital rather than physical basis as well as during busy and special occasions. That has all lead to me being rather stressed. Not to mention that I am wicked sick right now. Sore throat/headache/stuffy the works.

On a good note I am eating tasty pesto right now and I have loads of time to clean my room and apartment. I got my doll house from my mothers house and the roomies have let me have a crafting area in the living room. I am SO happy about that.. I really hope it leads to massive creativity. I am pretty well nested at the moment so the creative juices are flowing. Plus it means more time with Dexter : )

Death of the Escort

Oh JB sorry for the lack of posts... : ) I am a blogging delinquent. I am totally self absorbed at the moment. I have not been crafting much other than to sew up my 'prom queen' outfit for a wedding I went to this weekend. It was a camping wedding.. quite fun! I will have some pictures of that soon. Lots of bonfires, stars and singing loons (the birds not the people).

But.. the big news of the weekend. The death of the Escort. Well.. I shouldn't jump to conclusions.. I got a tow from Augusta to Portland last night and of course there were no working garages today so I will not hear until tomorrow what actually happened to her. I am assuming the alternator is shot but I really know nothing about cars. What I do know is this is going to significantly change my way of life if it is over 250 bucks to fix.

It has been SO long since I have blogged. I have been slammed busy at work and personal life. It is nice to be busy however a bit overwhelming at times. Tonight I am digging around my room like a crack fiend looking for my phone charger. I remember taking it out of the wall when I vacuumed so that Dexter wouldn't chew it but from there I draw a blank. Good excuse to clean my room I suppose...

Otherwise... This is a picture taken out of my back window really early in the morning when I had to be at work at the crack of dawn. The moon was so much bigger in 'real life' but I like how my screwy camera set it right on the bottom of the frame. The lily's have since passed and fall is fast approaching around here.

Tower of Cheese

This is part of the reason I have been so busy lately. Lots and lots of cheese making! And selling and packaging... If you think this looks a little crazy... You are very much right. I had a bit of a cheese disaster last week.. An avalanche... A party foul... I knocked over one of the towers. I did manage to get cheese in some pretty difficult places to clean. But anyhoo I thought I would share some pictures from my line of work to give a better idea of what I am up to. And to rationalize to myself why I am not getting much of anything else done : )

Been a bit of a posting slacker this week. It has been a crazy week...Work is so busy at the moment. I have found the time to knit a little. I am almost done with my third wool scarf and a little green bag that I've knitted as well. I'll get some images up when I finish them. In the meantime enjoy the yellow lilly above. This is a bit of what I have been up to lately. This is a sampling of the product/farm/cow shots I am working on for our new website and promo stuff. I figured I would get this all out of the way at once instead of torturing you with posts for each one :). I am in the middle of scanning the lot .. about 75 I would say. I hope my old scanner doesn't burn out. Then onto the editing! At least these images are teeny so you can't see the dust heh. I really need to go digital. The cast of characters: Sparkles the calf, Ralph leaning against the tree and I have yet to identify which one of the girls the adult cow is. Lots of green and black I am noticing throughout. So anyway I am procrastinating!

James Revisited

As part of my quest to finish projects this was a good start. I had finished the wood cut of James Dean I started a while ago from this picture. I am really happy with how it came out. I need to clean up around the right ear a bit but that is sort of expected. I printed this on muslin using a water based silk screen ink. The next step is to iron it to heat set it and give it a good washing to make sure it stays put.

On another note the cow pictures I got back today came out pretty well along with the remainder of the cheese product shots. I have a TON of scanning to do. I think I need a tollhouse cookie pie from The Great Lost Bear first though!

Little Brother

This is my favorite picture of my little brother and I. After being inspired by the "Red Racer" story on my friend Jonathans Blog I decided to put this up. Oh the days of those springy things on your shoe laces and big ol glasses! I had considered going back to bangs fairly recently but maybe I am having some kind of regression heh. I'll just stick to blonde highlights I think.

Otherwise... Dexter made his way back into the box spring through massive amounts of stapling and cardboard. It is all up to the Duct Tape now. We'll see how long this lasts. On a crafty note... I have finished the pink and yellow scarf and I am now doing a rather preppy version. It's quite a bit wider and a dark khaki brown with very thin red and pink stripes dispersed throughout. Once I get 5 I am going to start seeing if they will sell. Momma needs a new camera!

This is the group shot I like the best from a photo shoot I did for work. This is 95% of all of the cheese we make. I'll post more of the images when I get them scanned....plus I dont know how to put more than one picture in a post : ) The background was an old door and the wood under the plates is all old, burned and aged. Good contrast I think.

Dexter

I should mention Dexter is adjusting quite well. He has more space to run and sprawl out than before. He also has a new circle rug to destroy at his leisure. He has also found a hole in the lining to my box spring that he can climb up into and drive mommy crazy! I keep repairing the rip and he keeps undoing it. I am thinking maybe putting cardboard along the bottom at this point. I admire his perseverance.

Now that the move has finally sunk in and I have gotten most of my stuff put away (2 weeks) I have begun to knit again. But not just a regular knit but knitting at a feverish pace out of heavy wool at the beach. I never thought I would be a summer knitter but I am enjoying it quite a bit. Maybe even more than in the winter! I think having a new pink vinyl full length lounge style beach chair helps : ) The above is an example of the most recent project.

New apartment, new room, new neighborhood new projects...it is all coming together in one overwhelming heap. Hopefully it won't be long before I resolve the lack of internet...
New things I am working on:
-Knitting scarves of wool...in the summer time heat..am I crazy? Probably but they are darn cute and will come in awfully handy when fall rolls around.
-Taking pictures of the shirtless construction workers building a condo obstructing the view of the city from my new apartment. Red hats, blue sky...tan...look out..
-Reconstructing my room to accomodate a very crazy rabbit
-And of course still working on a couple of softies

The Mooove

Ah....moving...the joy's, the emotional rollercoaster, the expensive packing tape. And also the part where I don't think I am going to have internet access for 2 months. I am sure I will find a way to update..or more importantly to get updated on all the other bloggers I am addicted to! So..a brief hiatus.. a brief so long... I am sure I will have such a backlog of photos and craft projects it will be like an explosion when I get back!

24 Hours of Cheese

After a crazy weekend of wedding, hitting the town, and farmers market it is time for 24 hours of making cheese. In a valiant attempt to completely finish our Christmas Cheddar the two of us are taking one shift and making cheese from 5:30 pm Monday evening until around 7:30 pm Tuesday evening. I am going in for the second leg of the mission. Bulking up at the moment with a big bowl of oatmeal and some tea. It is a beautiful day for cheese.

This is a new bunny I finished last night. I have put away my sewing machine for the move so I made him by hand. I would make a few changes for the next one..he was kind of a test. He is now Penney's bunny. I like the raw edges..I will be working more with this in the future.

First day in a bathing suit this year yay! I took a lot of pictures but this is the only one that came out. Funny thing is this is the one where I put the camera on the ground just to see if I could get a good foreground vs background image heh. Figures. I really need a better digital camera. If my car doesn't die between now and the end of the summer I think I may invest in a decent digi. Here's hoping people eat lots and lots of cheese this summer : )

A Little Bird

Another little garden creature...a little bird from a birdbath. I finally have figured out the subtleties of my battery charger so I hope to be able to take pictures for more than 2o minutes at a stretch. My woodcut is also coming along well. James is done. I now need to start testing it on some paper and fabric to see if it will work for the t-shirt idea. Otherwise I just got about 50 boxes from work to start the packing saga for my move at the end of the month. Wish me luck!

Yay! The sun finally came out for a brief period this weekend. Spent a fabulous day at Two Lights State Park. This was the best picture I got of the 4 I took before my batteries died. I want to go back and do a little series I think. That is my friend out there watching the waves. Such a great place to relax for an afternoon. Mmmmm.

Ah...the joy of embellishments. I found these while sorting through my fabric as well. I love the bright colors. These I am looking to part with as well...I have had them for WAY too long and I know someone will have way better use for them than sitting here in a bin. This some of the fabric I have to give away...or swap for something teeny-tiny. Going small these days and trying to let go of things I have been holding on to for way to long...let someone else have a go at making something with it! It is mostly upholstery fabric and of heavier weights. It is also mostly vintage...picked up at yardsales and thrift shops along the way. Not shown are several ginghams and lighter cottons. I am moving at the end of June and just organized all of my fabric. I have tons of stuff I have weeded out. I am being brutal in order to empty a couple of bins for packing other things I have acquired. I also have tons of shoe boxes...I don't know how many people are reading this but I am happy to send some out if anyone wants some. I would love to give it to some of you creative people out there. I will post some of the highlights of the bunch...lots of retro upholstery fabric, fringy things and fat quarters. Some of the pieces are larger, some smaller it's a mixed up group but tons of potential....especially for some of the fun little creatures I see people making!

Today is the Camden Food Festival here in Maine. I am really excited to try cheese from other Maine cheese makers (and hopefully wine makers) I am at a loss for words this morning after a long day yesterday consisting of several identity changes:

1. Cow wrangler and stylist
2. Cheese maker
3. Spokes person

Long, productive and informative day. I felt like Superman changing clothes so many times! I will get some pictures up of the cows soon, they are so happy to be outside. Also, pictures of my other finished projects to look forward to: (I am in a list mood)

1. Pin up girl magnets
2. Aprons
3. My first ever from a pattern skirt
4. New fabulous flannel scarf...because we haven't had a day above 60 yet : )

Hopefully tomorrow will be a very productive sewing day...and I don't get cheese fatigue today!

New Fabric

I got some new fabric yesterday and 4 patterns! Two for bags and two for skirts. I have been making bags from trial and error and I think its time to try something from a 'real' pattern. Having never made something from a pattern before I may take a little trip to my mothers and have her decipher them for me. I think the fabric above will all be made into aprons though. I started making a those about a month ago to sell at the farmers markets. I will be posting those as soon as I get some decent light. Off to sew.... : )

I didn't realize how not having enough sleep can really effect my thinking patterns. The following caffeine intake has been a part of that as well. I have new neighbors next door that like to BBQ at midnight. The only bad thing about that is my bedroom is about an arms length from their porch. I thought about opening my window and asking for a burger but I chickened out heehee... Although they didn't go to bed before 3 the last 2 nights I did manage to get a lot of thinking done in the wee hours of the morning. Mostly thinking about how I am moving in a month to a larger quieter space on the other side of town. I will miss my roommate but I will save my sanity. I am sure a project will come out of the BBQ at midnight saga...stay tuned.

Here is my addition to the Studio Confidant Project...Such a fun idea. Wonder Woman hangs over my desk and inspires me often. Her top and tiara actually have a great sheen when the light is right. This was painted by my newly transplanted to the big city of New York, John Jennison.

These are some of the other Courier Bags I have done over the past months. From the photo it looks like they need a good ironing...I was selling them on the street here in Portland a while back with some success. I now make them to order and at this point I am looking to liquidate these to make room for the other projects I am working on. Anyone want to make an offer...a trade maybe?

Bird Bag

This is my latest and greatest in the bag department. I am really loving applique. It is sort of like drawing with fabric. I found some great already quilted fabric and added the tree, birds and flowers. I quilted the tree with my machine. The next one will be a little less wonky but I have been getting compliments so I am encouraged. I think I will get some snaps and play with making a more reliable closure than the round bead on this one.

This is one of the projects I am working on at the moment. I have become sort of obsessed with Pinup girls lately. They are so bright and fun...so I am embroidering them! My goal is to make a smallish throw quilt of a bunch of them tiled. The fabric I did this one on is a little too sheer so will probably end up as a pillow. I think I may do some applique (thanks Clara for the idea!) for the bathing suit and hair...too much white space at the moment. I have a feeling this is going to take quite a while but I am hoping the results will be worth it!

Bunny Love

I should introduce my partner in crime. This is Mr. Dexter. He is a rabbit I found at a yardsale..rescued from the certain doom of pulled ears and wire cages. He happily hops, sometimes a bit spastically, around my room and is full of lots of fuzzy bunny love. The House Rabbit Society is a great link for bunny info and rescue organizations.

Yay...new batteries and a charger woo hooo...it is supposed to be rainy all weekend here so I hope that I get super motivated and finish taking pictures of everything...and maybe get started on my submission to the month of softees.

This is another corduroy bag that is a little bit smaller than the Bouquet bag. It fits nicely over one shoulder and snugly crossed over the chest.

This is a bag I made in the courier style. It fits several books or journals/art supplies rather well. The red ribbon tie keeps the flap from..doing just that..
It is made with a fabric I found with a very fine whale corduroy and a funky flower pattern. It was a great find I wish I could get more!!

I have been really obsessed with courier bags...there will be several more to come of this style once I get more batteries for my camera.
